Premiered on Netflix and SBS TV April 17, 2020 through till June 12, 2020, the recently concluded South Korean TV Series, The King, Eternal Monarch is a classic one as it opens one’s eyes to worlds unknown, yet real.

The Romance-Fantasy written by Kim Eun-sook starring Lee Min-ho as Lee Gon and  Kim Go-eun as Jung Tae-eul, the heroes while  Lee Jung-jin as Lee Lim, the villain, is one that cannot be looked away from considering the compelling story, twist and turns in the plot, scenic background, dialogue and cast’s delivery of roles. It was so hard to lose sight of the mystic part for the movie irrespective of the comics and romance in it. It is indeed a thought provoking series as two worlds were portrayed: the Kingdom of Corea and the Kingdom of Korea.

It  reveals the dual or multiple nature of humanity and the world we are in. Exposing the fact that, there is a world where evil thrives and another where Truth is prevalent, first in the souls of men, before it is expressed on the out side. It exposes the intention and motives of men as forces that control their actions and choices they make.

Lee Lim, the villain in the Series, had issues of insecurity and greed. Evil found those tools to use in him.

Lee Gon, the hero, was a child who had no ambition whatsoever; he was just living life innocently and sincerely but had to go through the wrath of Evil meted out through his uncle, Lee Lim.

The series shows how life is lived by the choices people make as a commitment towards their world. Either one is living fabulously fine or humbly simple, your motives/intentions and choices/decisions one makes affect one’s world, people in it and yourself.

Your commitment is a sacrifice you have to make; whether your life life or others’ will go for it.

The fact is we all have stories to tell. While some people’s stories are more grievous and empathetic than others, everyone’s hurt is painfully special to them. And we can capitalize on what we’ve gone and going through to make wrong choices in order to be gratified. But it doesn’t make us good; rather we have succeeded in giving the reins of power to our sworn enemy like Luna, and Goo Seo-ryung / Goo Eun-a (Jung Eun-chae) who acted as  the Prime Minister of Corea/a common citizen of Korea did.

Lee Gon, who became king at a tender age, grew up to see the evil that is resident and fast taking over things in the worlds, made the choice of restoring order by letting go his life – his luxury/comfort, love, and life to death; knowing fully well he may not be able to recover them all.

There are things we are so afraid to lose that makes us make bad choices (that appear good to us because it seems to solve our problems. It could be job, dignity, ego, emotions, whatever they are, that we are trying all we can to keep them shows that we are under their rule. For these things, we cheat, lie, hate, envy, ignore, backbite, and turn our backs on and to Truth.

Will Order ever be restored?

Will the King recover all he will lose for laying his life down?

Watch this thrilling Drama and find out for yourself!
